There is no difference in essence, the name is different.
To elaborate: lightning arrester:
Generally used inside the device, such as communication Power Supply, UPS, there are lightning protection devices, basically all of them are Class D lightning protection (Reference to the German lightning protection standard, 20KA, 8uS), the structure is three varistors (Connected between the 3-phase live line and the neutral line) and a gas discharge tube (between the neutral line and the protective earth), each device is in front of the fuse or open to prevent the lightning arrester from catching fire when a severe lightning strike occurs. There is an alarm contact and the device alarm will be triggered when the fault occurs.
Lightning protection box:
Generally used in the computer room (also known as TVSS), such as IDC data center, small and medium-sized machine room, is essential, there is one or more enhanced lightning protection device, the entire lightning protection box is generally according to Class B or Class C The lightning protection standard design (also referred to as the German lightning protection standard) is more complex in structure, has a historical record, can record the number of lightning strikes, and has a fault alarm function.
