Explain the Working Mode of DC Power Supply: CC or CV

2021-12-17

First of all, we need to understand what the CC and CV modes of DC Power Supply are:

Constant voltage mode (CV mode)

Constant voltage mode (also called constant voltage) means that the current value of the load changes within the rated range while the output voltage of the DC Power Supply remains stable. That is, when the load changes and the output current changes, the output voltage remains At the set voltage value and remain unchanged.

Constant current mode (CC mode))

Constant current mode (also called constant current) means that the resistance value of the DC load changes within the rated range, while the output current of the DC power supply maintains a stable working mode, that is, when the resistance value of the load changes and the output voltage changes, The output current remains at the set current value and remains unchanged.

Ohm's Law:

Simple definition:

In the same circuit, the current passing through a certain conductor is proportional to the voltage at both ends of the conductor and inversely proportional to the resistance of the conductor. This is Ohm's law.

Notice:

The unit of the physical quantity in the formula: I: (current) is in amperes (A), U: (voltage) is in volts (V), R: (resistance) is in ohms (Ω). APM DC Power Supplies have a constant current and constant voltage mode. According to Ohm's law, all DC power supplies output and maintain a certain voltage or current, but in fact the output of the power supply depends on the voltage, current setting value of the power supply and the load connected to the power supply The resistance R.

The states of constant voltage mode and constant current mode are complementary, that is, the DC power supply either works in constant voltage mode or in constant current mode. Therefore, before operating, the user should first correctly set the required voltage or current value according to the nature of the load and the resistance value of the load, and select the use mode that meets the requirements of the load.
